Together, we can create welcoming, purpose-built spaces where patients and families receive extraordinary care, comfort, and support during life’s most tender moments.
The Making Moments campaign will create two bespoke spaces designed to meet our community’s growing needs.
A New Home for Community Support A welcoming, accessible community center will bring bereavement services, education, outreach, family programs, volunteers, and staff together under one roof—creating more room for healing, learning, and connection.
A New Christopher House On 13 acres in Northeast Austin, we will build a new Christopher House designed around the needs of patients and families. Our new facility will offer expert 24-hour care, peaceful family spaces, connections to nature and walking trails, and the comfort and dignity every patient deserves.
We are extremely grateful to KXAN for the gift of this video’s production.
Thank you to our generous donors!

Making Moments campaign goal
Hospice Austin is evolving
The Making Moments campaign will help us respond to critical challenges like aging buildings, restrictive locations, space shortages, and increasing competition. The proceeds will fund specialized spaces and other solutions designed around the needs of patients, families, staff, and future care professionals. With your help, Hospice Austin will continue to serve Central Texas for generations to come.
“Now is the right moment to continue our growth and increase our reach as the leader of end-of-life care in our area. The steadfast generosity of our philanthropic partners is critical. It will guide us as we build new family-centered, technologically advanced spaces. And it will ensure that we can serve our neighbors now and well into the future.”
— HERB DYER, MPA, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER —
Making moments...
While the end of a life is marked by deep sorrow, the moments leading toward that end can hold shared moments of laughter, storytelling, music, forgiveness, and wholehearted expressions of love. It’s these moments we help deliver thanks to your generosity.

A Last Walk, More Like a Parade
Omar wanted one final trip outdoors. Hospice Austin nurses and
staff walked beside him, filling the path with music and dancing.
What could have been a quiet goodbye became a joyful parade—one
last chance for Omar to feel fully alive, surrounded by the love
and care of his family and team.

Living for Music
John missed live music more than anything. When Hospice Austin
learned his favorite band was Vallejo, the team helped bring its
lead singer and guitarist to his bedside for a private concert.
That unforgettable afternoon, John was no longer defined by
illness—he was simply the excited fan he had always been.

Bringing Graduation to Mom
Mary was too ill to attend her daughter’s high school graduation,
so Hospice Austin brought the ceremony to Christopher House.
With her parents watching, her daughter crossed the room in cap
and gown to receive her diploma and medals. A milestone Mary might
have missed became a celebration they shared together.

A Senior Portrait to Treasure
Jazmin had been too ill to take her senior portraits, so Hospice
Austin brought the experience to her.
A volunteer opened her home, a photographer donated her talent,
and a beauty team helped Jazmin feel like the star of the day.
Her family kept beautiful photographs—and one joyful memory to
treasure.

Surrounded by His Firefighting Family
Battalion Chief Travis Maher spent his life serving others. At
Christopher House, his firefighting family visited around the
clock, filling his room with love and shared stories.
Their presence made Christopher House the battalion’s second
home. Hospice Austin also helped Travis celebrate Christmas
with his family, fulfilling his final wish.

Operation Cat Therapy
Mark was a self-proclaimed cat person. When his wife asked about
cat therapy, Hospice Austin’s team partnered with the Georgetown
Animal Shelter to bring two kittens to his bedside.
Mark, his wife, and staff shared a tender moment as he held
the kittens. Though cat therapy wasn’t an official program,
the team made it happen—dubbing their mission “Operation Cat Therapy.”

Giving With Gratitude
After more than a year of care, Matt wanted to give back. When
his social worker, Shelby, helped him receive disability back
payments, he chose to donate 10% to Hospice Austin.
Knowing Matt and his mother lived paycheck to paycheck, his
care team gently tried to dissuade him. But Matt was unwavering:
he wanted to thank those who had given so much to him. His
gratitude reflected the generous hearts of both Matt and his mother.
